Mirror, Mirror PT1

Mirror, Mirror Feedback: Peer feedback: Kevin gave me the idea to add in an eerie creaking sound effect of the door opening and closing during the bathroom scene. I chose to go along with this, as it adds in an element of suspense that portrays that of a thriller genre. Despite this, for the final edit I intend on fading this sound effect sooner (Feedback given by Teacher Bianca). It lingers too long and I'm not happy with how this effect turned out. Porcia gave the response that I could add a bit more suspense to the beginning of the music when the title appears on screen. However, I have made the decision to disregard this as I like the music how it is. Additionally, changing the music would interfere with the soundtrack for the rest of the film and this would have to change entirely as it is from the same audio feed, Many people who viewed my short film agreed that they liked my transitions throughout the video and how it switched between black and white, which is representati...

Effects Research

Adobe After Effects CC Vignette Effect The use of vignette is an idea that really appeals to me and is one I am keen to use. Adding a vignette can be a powerful way to enhance both the mood and the composition of an image. By adjusting the light and selectively darkening certain areas of the image, I am able to guide the viewer's eye more easily through the image and towards the main subject. The distribution of light throughout the image will, in cooperation with a strong composition, be what guides the viewer's eye through the image. Our eyes tend to be attracted to the brighter areas of an image and the darker areas help lead the eyes towards the subject. I intend to add the vignette effect when Kevin is walking in the hallway leading to the bathroom, as it will put the focus on his mental decline, and builds suspense as we see this come into fruition. The photo above shows how the distribution of lighting can guide what the viewer's pay attention to. It is also creates ...

PT 1 - CCR

Preliminary Task: CCR Questions Question 1: How does our product USE or CHALLENGE conventions? There is an inciting crime indicative of a 'master villain'. The aim is to create a clear moment, in the short amount of time, when the antagonist knows they cannot go back to the original state of what things were as his internal struggle escalates and his mental stability starts to decline.  The antagonist's initial strategy to outmaneuver the protagonist fails. In this case, it is the repetition of getting consistently low grades while the other main character (Carol) continues to get higher grades. The protagonist discovers and understands the antagonist's external object of desire, being the good grades, and finds out that this is what he wants.  Our project uses the convention that the protagonist becomes the victim, and in the chase scene, it is revealed that the antagonist becomes the primary victim. The core event of the thriller is when the 'good guy' is at t...

Opening Sequence

Image
An opening sequence is the method by which films or television programmes present their title and key production and cast members, utilizing conceptual visuals and sound. It typically includes the text of the opening credits and helps establish the setting and tone of the film. It may consist of live action, animation, music, still images, and/or graphics. Purpose: The opening credits inform the audience which studios or production companies were involved in making the film, and they run the name of the major stars in the cast. Similarly, the end credits, which appear after the final scene of  a film, list everyone involved in the production. For example, this opening sequence from 'Catch Me If You Can' An opening sequence is not just an intro to a TV show or a film to display credits. They are an opportunity to set the tone; you get to invite your audience into the fictional world and give them a taste of what it is like. Opening sequences can reinforce brand identity and prov...

Learning to Use the Equipment

Image
Camera, Lighting, and Sound: Yesterday we practiced different techniques of lighting including three-point lighting and silhouettes. We learnt how to white balance using a lighting fleccie, and today we went outside to demonstrate our understanding of this.  Today we used the cameras, a Sony XD Cam and took various shots, including a mid-shot and a close up. We attached a microphone to the camera and saw the way sound can be incorporated into the video. Our group ready to start From left to right: Chloe Managh, Brianna Hodder, Carol Joseph Here we have Chloe demonstrating our three point lighting with red gel filters. On the left, Kevin used a lighting fleccie to redirect the light onto Chloe's face. We had one light on each side of her to create this dynamic.

Essay: The Bourne Identity

THE BOURNE IDENTITY     The Bourne Identity conveys meaning and illustrates messages that are based off the producer's ideologies for the audience to decode through the four elements of representation: Camera, Sound, Editing, and Mise-en-scene.   The beginning of the scene starts off with an extreme wide shot which is used as the establishing shot. It shows the view from the docks and large ships can be viewed in the distance. This is mainly for establishing the location of the scene - near a pier in France - and is the setting for the first part of this scene. Several cuts are made in transitioning where Bourne is walking towards the inner urban area, and these cuts show the brief ellipses of time. There is a constant orchestral music playing in the background  as Bourne walks through the city and heads to the train station. This non-diegetic sound provides a sense of ease, a nd almost a sense of being lost as he wanders around. It also makes us as the audience a bi...
