Representation Essay: Downton Abbey

Representation Essay: The opening sequence does not immediately start with an establishing shot, but rather starts the narrative with a message being sent via Morse code, which is later revealed to be the news of the sinking of the titanic and the death of the heir to Downton Abbey. This immediately sets a time period with the mise-en-scene used. The audience is able to decipher from the very first minute that it is set during the twentieth century and this observation is established when the title credits show the date 'April 1912'. The conversation between the two characters is shown effectively using quick, morph cuts to show the interaction and relationship between the two of them. The music originally starts reasonably loud and somewhat dramatic, which alludes to the significance of the upcoming news. During the moments of dialogue in this scene, the music is barely audible, which can be interpreted as the shock of the news which has just been shared. The establishing sh...

Preliminary Task 2 After Effects

After Effects: Text Animation I decided to use this specific effect in order to add to the element of suspense to the thriller film. This element adds to the atmosphere of the film and creates a tense and moody feel to the video which correlates to the narrative of the film. This specific effect, coupled with the music added, establishes a clear link between the genre of the film and is reflected by the graphics displayed in this opening sequence. Echo  Glitch Effect I decided to use the echo glitch effect to enhance the effect on his struggling as the victim tries to escape. It also creates this sort of wrestling effect between the characters as Omen tries to cause more damage in a last minute plan to push him off the bridge, while this is actually an escape plan for the hostage. I didn't add too much of a glitch so it wouldn't overthrow or take away from the video, but enhance it slightly by adding a simple, but effective, after effect.

PT2 Rough Edit Feedback

Teacher Feedback: Things that worked well: Nice fades over establishing shots She liked the echo effect of the voices Things that need work: The titles need attention The audio needs to be louder - the voices were hard to hear at times during moments of dialogue The build up to the jump off the bridge needed to be more impactful, and the suspense needs to be built up more (whether it be closer shots or audio changes) Peer Feedback: Things that worked well: Nice establishing shots Nice fades between shots Good actors Music in background was fitting for the video Things that need work: The shots might be too quick The end credits need work (they were too quick)
